Spring Hill Secures Second SIAC Championship

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Spring Hill College softball team defeated #3 (West) Lane in a pair of games in the 2024 Cricket SIAC Softball Championship final to take home its second conference title in program history at the South Commons Softball Complex on Wednesday.

Bailey Cox, Amanda Glowacki and Rycca Hinton led the Badgers with two RBIs apiece in the first game of the day. Cox and Hinton also doubled in the 8-4 extra-inning win that forced the rubber match. Oscha Carter contributed with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate with a run scored and a walk.

Emma Curry earned the win after coming in relief of Emily Phillips and closing the game out with 3.0 scoreless innings. She scattered five hits and a walk with a strikeout in her appearance.

The Badgers forced a winner-take-all rubber match with the first win. Meadow Villar, Taylor Pittman, Kayla Coley-Drayton and Macy Holt each tallied an RBI in the evening game. Coley-Drayton and Carter both went 2-for-4 at the plate and crossed the plate once to help secure the Badgers' second SIAC tournament title in program history.

Leighanna Turk took the win in the final game after tossing 3.2 scoreless innings and striking out three batters. 

The championship marked the first since 2019 and the first under Head Coach Hanna Lythberg.

Following the tournament, Pittman, Carter, Phillips, Curry and Cat McCulley were all named to the All-Tournament team for their performances during the week.

Game One

• T3 | Cox doubled to right center to score Phillips, Spring Hill 1-0.
• B3 | Aspyn Beattie homered to left field and tied the game, 1-1.
• T4 | Hinton doubled to left field to score Allison Mangan. Pittman singled to left field to score Hinton. Lindsey Mecom scored on a bases-loaded walk, Spring Hill 4-1.
• B4 | Takya Garrett singled to right center to score Halle Koger. Joslyn Soinila singled to right field to score Garrett, Spring Hill 4-3.
• B6 | Soinila singled to center field to score Julliana Saint Hilaire, 4-4.
• T8 | Glowacki singled to left field to score Carter and Holt. Villar singled to right field to score Cox. Hinton sacrificed to center field to score Glowacki, Spring Hill 8-4.

Game Two

• B1 | Villar singled up the middle to score Carter, Spring Hill 1-0.
• B2 | Holt singled to center field to score Coley-Drayton, Spring Hill 2-0.
• B3 | Pittman grounded out to score Cox, Spring Hill 3-0.
• T4 | Jayden McCarty doubled down the left field line to score Koger and Saint Hilarie. Soinila singled up the middle to score McCarty, 3-3.
• B7 | Coley-Drayton knocked the walk-off RBI through the right side to score Alexis Yuratich, Spring Hill 4-3.
