Spring Hill upsets top-seeded Albany State at SIAC Tournament

ALBANY, Ga. – The Spring Hill College baseball team upset No. 1 Albany State, 3-2, during the 2023 Cricket Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Baseball Championship Tournament at the ASU West Campus on Saturday.

(#3) Spring Hill (31-21, 25-7 SIAC) upset top-seeded (#1) Albany State (35-9, 30-2 SIAC) in the semifinal matchup. With the upset victory, the Badgers are on their way to their second-straight SIAC Championship game. Kai St. Germaine (7-4) came in relief in the eighth inning and struck out one batter while only giving up three hits en route to his victory on the mound.

SHC was led by Nick Hunter, who went 4-for-2 with two RBIs, which included the go-ahead in the top of the ninth.

The Golden Rams struck first in the second inning after capitalizing on a wild pitch to go up 1-0. Jackson Bell hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to tie the game at 1-1. ASU jumped back ahead, 2-1, in the eighth on a RBI double to right center field. Nick Hunter came in clutch in the ninth with a two-run RBI to put the Badgers back out in front, 3-2. SHC solidified the 3-2 semifinal upset victory with a double play in the bottom of the ninth.
