TAMPA, Fla. – The Spring Hill College baseball team fell to No. 1 Tampa, 17-2, in the opening game of the NCAA South Regional at the UT Baseball Field on Thursday.
The 8-seed Badgers (32-22, 25-7 SIAC) made their third-straight NCAA postseason appearance against the top-seeded Spartans (41-9, 26-4 SSC) in the opening game.
Logan Clark (7-2) suffered his second loss of the season on the mound.
Tampa got on the board first with four runs across the first two innings before Spring Hill answered in the third behind a RBI fielder's choice from
Ethan Valdez. The Spartans plated seven more unanswered runs across the fourth, fifth and sixth innings before
Nick Hunter recorded a RBI base hit for the Badgers' second run of the day. UT scored four more runs in the bottom of the eighth to solidify the 17-2 victory over SHC.
