MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College baseball team split a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) doubleheader and won the series against Edward Waters at Sims-Galle Field on Saturday.
Spring Hill took an early lead in game one after getting on the board first with two runs in the second inning. Things would turn around in the eighth inning when Edward Waters scored two runs to take a 5-4 lead. The Badgers tied the game again in the bottom of the eighth after
Parker Serio batted a RBI single into center field on a full count. After an additional run by SHC to take a 6-5 lead, the Tigers answered with four runs in the ninth inning to secure the 9-6 victory and force the series to be decided in the final game.
EWU kept its momentum going to start the second game of the doubleheader with a 2-0 lead by the third inning. Spring Hill answered with five runs of their own to take a 5-2, highlighted by a RBI single and heads-up base running by
Jackson Bell, who scored on a passed ball. The Badgers tacked on three insurance runs in the sixth thanks to a RBI double by
Cade Simpson. The Tigers tried to muster a comeback in the seventh, but were stopped in their tracks by the Badgers, who walked away with the 8-4 win and the series victory.
