WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Spring Hill College volleyball team fell in two matches against Charleston and (RV) Barry at the Rollins College Invitational on Friday.

Spring Hill fought for five sets in its opening match against Charleston (25-18, 19-25, 21-25, 26-24, 12-15). A five-point scoring run, led by
Brooke Borgmeyer with two kills, put the Badgers in front 13-7 about halfway through the set. SHC maintained its lead for the remainder of the set and won 25-18. Both teams kept the second set close to begin with, not allowing more than a three-point lead either way, until Charleston recorded two straight kills and took a 12-8 lead. The Golden Eagles took the second and third set 25-19 and 25-21, respectively. A nine-point scoring run by the Badgers solidified their victory in the fourth set 26-24. Charleston came out on top in the final set 15-12 and won the match 3-2. Â

SHC fell to (RV) Barry (17-25, 21-25, 19-25) in its second match of the day. The Badgers kept it close in set one until the Buccaneers went on a six-point scoring run. Barry secured the first set 25-17 after an additional four-point scoring run late in the set. In the second set, a kill by
Airyonna Weaver followed by a bad set by Barry gave the Badgers a 17-16 lead. Barry stormed back with four straight points and ultimately took the set 25-21. SHC took a commanding lead, 6-3, early in set three, Barry answered with three different scoring runs and won the set 25-19, sweeping the Badgers in three sets.

"I think our team is disappointed that we could not play better against a good Charleston team. I do credit them for fighting to come back and make it close. Barry really dominated from start to finish, we struggled on the block. Offensively we were ok, but blocking was an issue. Credit to their setter for confusing our block."
