Badger Baseball moves past Morehouse, 13-2

ALBANY, Ga. (May 6, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers baseball team continued to advance at the 2022 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championship Tournament with a 13-2 win over the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers at Paul Eams Ballpark on Friday.

The Badgers (36-13) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning off a groundout to 2nd base by Gage Ragona that plated Cam Brock from 3rd base.

The Maroon Tigers (13-24) put a run on the board in the bottom of the 3rd inning with an RBI-single that found a crack between 3rd base and the shortstop.

SHC held a 2-1 lead after five innings, but a 2-hour rain delay interrupted the proceedings and led to a switch in venues to the Albany State University (ASU) West Campus Stadium where the Badgers shook off the distractions to race out to a 13-1 cushion by the middle of the 8th inning.

Ragona extended his school-record reached-base record to 49 games with two hits and two RBI while Luke Sweeney also extended his current hitting streak to 26 games with a single and an RBI. First baseman Micah Morgan's hitting streak reached 25 games and his reached-base streak stands at 37 contests.

Right fielder Grayson Williams had two hits with a double and two RBI as Norris McClure drove three scores off two hits. Designated hitter Grant Akridge was 3-for-4 with a run-driven-in. Catcher Bryce Walker smacked a double with an RBI while also cutting down the one attempted Morehouse base stealer.

Logan Clark improved to 9-2 on the year, scattering six hits and two walks over 5.0 innings with three strikeouts. Michael Romano pitched two innings with one hit, one walk, and four strikeouts as Solon White pitched the final inning with one hit allowed against five batters faced.

Five Tiger pitchers surrendered a total of 13 hits and five walks with just two Badger strikeouts.

The Badgers next plays in the winners' side of the bracket 2 p.m. (east) Saturday morning versus the Miles College Golden Bears (25-21) at West Campus Stadium.
