MOBILE, Ala. (March 5, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers softball team finished a 3-game Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) series sweep of the Lane College Dragons on Saturday afternoon at Murray Field with a 2-1 walk-off win for the second time in less than 24 hours.
With the score knotted at 1-1 in the bottom of the 7
th inning, Badger left fielder
Sophia Nuzzolillo drew a leadoff walk that was followed by a sacrifice bunt by shortstop
Madison Koger that was thrown away by the Dragons, resulting in runners at the corners.
Paityn Desormeaux then walked to load the bases and second baseman
Macy Holt provided the final heroics by driving a screaming line drive hit off the glove of the drawn-in Dragon 3
rd baseman to plate Nuzzolillo.
SHC opened the scoring with a bases-loaded walk by catcher
Hailey Vanbrimmer that allowed Holt to stroll home from 3
rd base in the 4
th inning.
Lane tied the game in the 6
th inning when right fielder Jayden McCarty singled through the right side to bring in center fielder Millay Lambert.
Desormeaux (1-0) took the win in 4.0 innings of relief from her 1
st base position and totaled three hits allowed with no walks and eight strikeouts.
Olivia Indorf pitched the first three stanzas for the Badgers, surrendering just one hit with one walk and three strikeouts.
Jonni Sanchez (0-1) suffered the loss in 1.2 innings of relief with a hit and two walks while Autumn Phillips went the first 4.1 innings for Lane with six hits and a walk.
The Badgers (8-8; 3-0 SIAC West) will travel to Jasper, Ala. on Thursday to play in the 2022 SIAC Crossover Tournament at Memorial Park beginning at 3:30 p.m. versus the Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Wildcats (4-10; 0-0 SIAC East).
