JASPER, Ala. (March 10, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers softball team opened play at the 2022 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Crossover Tournament on Thursday with an 8-0 win over the Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Wildcats and an 11-0 win over the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University (CAU) at Memorial Park.
SHC took 6 innings to earn the Mercy Rule victory over the Wildcats with
Olivia Indorf (4-5) earning the win in 3 perfect innings pitched while
Paityn Desormeaux earned her second save of the year with 3 innings of 1-hit ball. Indorf struck out three Wildcats while Desormeaux struck out five batters.
Four Badgers picked up two hits in the game with
Airyonna Weaver and
Sophia Nuzzolillo each also collecting a double.
The final game of the night saw SHC pick up a 5-inning win over the CAU Panthers as the Badgers erupted for 9 runs in the 3
rd inning.
Alexandra Ballester (5-3) was the complete-game winner with three hits allowed, five strikeouts and no walks.
The Badgers (10-8; 5-0 SIAC West) will remain in Jasper on Friday to play Day 2 of the SIAC Crossover.
