Badger softball finds ways past Lane in home DH

MOBILE, Ala. (March 4, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers softball team swept a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) doubleheader versus the Lane College Dragons on Friday afternoon at Murray Field by the scores of 3-2 and 2-1.

In the opener, Badger starter Olivia Indorf improved to 3-5 on the season with a complete-game 2-hitter as SHC scored three runs in the 1st inning and made it stand up despite a 2-run 5th inning by the Dragons.

Badger second baseman Macy Holt put the first run on the board with a triple to right that brought in first baseman Paityn Desormeaux who had reached on a double to left. Holt came home off a two-out infield error by Lane and center fielder Airyonna Weaver later scampered home via a double over the centerfielder's head by right fielder Lindsey Mecom.

Lane put two on the board in the 5th inning assisted by two Badger errors that ultimately resulted in two runners crossing the plate off a single to right by shortstop Kela Ray.

Indorf walked one and struck out two while Kayla Saul of Lane fell to 3-1 in 4.2 innings, allowing eight hits and two walks with no strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Alexandra Ballester (4-3) held the Dragons (7-2; 0-2 SIAC West) to four hits with two walks and three strikeouts as the Badgers used a walk-off, 2-out infield single to short by shortstop Madison Koger in the bottom of the 7th inning to win 2-1.

SHC took the lead in the 2nd inning when third baseman Brittany Hartung drove in a run with a grounder to 2nd base. Lane answered with the tying run in the 6th frame when third baseman Savannah Johnson drove in catcher Kaylee Stinnett with a double to right-center.

Autumn Phillips (1-1) took the loss for the Dragons in 6.2 innings with six hits, three walks and no strikeouts.

The Badgers (7-8; 2-0 SIAC West) will finish this 3-game series with the Dragons on Saturday with a single game beginning at 11 a.m. on Murray Field.
