Badger Softball finishes off 3-game sweep of Miles

PLEASANT GROVE, Ala. (March 26, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers softball team took both ends of a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) doubleheader by the scores of 11-0 and 2-0  over the Miles College Golden Bears on Saturday afternoon.

The Badgers began the scoring in the top of the 1st inning with a single to right by Paityn Desormeaux that brought in Sophia Nuzzolillo to put the Golden Bears (8-13-1; 5-3 SIAC West) in an early hole.

SHC continued the onslaught, building out a 6-0 lead after four innings of play and tacking on a 1-run 6th inning and a 4-run 7th frame.

Badger hitters racked up 12 hits with Desormeaux and Lindsey Mecom each tallying three hits each.

Desormeaux (3-2) picked up her second shutout of the year, allowing just four hits with no walks and 13 strikeouts. Shakayla Terry (4-3) suffered the complete-game loss with four walks and three strikeouts.

Alexandra Ballester (10-4) pitched her fourth shutout of the season, surrendering just two hits and a walk with five strikeouts as Madison Koger put a run across the plate in the 1st frame with a sacrifice fly and catcher Ashley Ortiz added the insurance run in the 4th inning with a 1-out single past 3rd base.

The Badgers (17-11; 11-3 SIAC West) will host the LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) Magicians (1-8; 0-5 SIAC) to a 3-game conference set on April 2-3 beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Murray Field.
