Softball splits results at SIAC Crossover final day

JASPER, Ala. (March 13, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers softball team finished play at the 2022 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Crossover Tournament on Sunday with a 10-2 win over the Benedict College (BC) Tigers and a 3-0 loss to the Albany State University (ASU) Golden Rams at Memorial Park.

The day's first game saw Alexandra Ballester (7-3) earn a complete-game win with eight strikeouts, two walks, and six hits allowed over 6.0 innings. First baseman Paityn Desormeaux was 3-of-4 with two RBI and a double while designated player Ashley Ortiz had two hits with three RBI and a home run. Shortstop Madison Koger and center fielder Airyonna Weaver each collected a pair of safeties to help the SHC cause.

In the final game, Paityn Desormeaux (2-1) took the loss in 6.0 innings, allowing 10 hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Mackenzie Chamblee of ASU limited the Badgers to five hits and two walks with two strikeouts while Morgan Brown's 2-run homer in the 5th inning put the Badgers in a 3-0 hole from which they could not dig out.

Due to an approaching weather system, the Badgers (13-9; 7-1 SIAC West) doubleheader at 13th-ranked West Florida on Tuesday has been canceled. The Badgers next series will be a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday at the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers (9-8; 5-0 SIAC) with both days beginning at noon.
