FAIRFIELD, Ala. (February 14, 2022) – The shorthanded Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team suffered a 73-50 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) road loss to the Miles College Golden Bears on Monday evening at Knox-Windham Gymnasium.
The Golden Bears (16-5; 8-5 SIAC West) took an early 10-5 lead, but the Badger battled back to take a 19-18 lead in the 2
nd quarter. Miles used its pesky defense and full-court pressure to build out a 30-22 lead as the Badgers struggled to find open passing lanes.
Miles carried a 32-22 advantage into the 3
rd quarter and maintained a 49-39 cushion heading into the final 10 minutes of play. The Badgers lack of depth reared its ugly head in the 4
th quarter as the Bears used an 11-3 run over the period's first 3 minutes to stretch out a 60-42 lead.
Tyashia Bostick scored 18 points for Spring Hill as the Badgers shot 32% (16-50) overall and 40.9% (9-22) from beyond the arc, but lost 29 turnovers to 14 steals by the Bears while being out-rebounded 51-29.
Only seven Badgers saw playing time as a recent rash of injuries limited the number of available players.
Miles was paced by Imani Williams with 14 points as the Bears shot 44.4% (32-72) from the floor, but made just 11.1% (1-9) their 3-point attempts. Miles lost 25 turnovers to 10 Badger steals.
The Badgers (4-21; 2-13 SIAC West) return for their final home contest of 2021-22 on Saturday afternoon when they host the Lane College Dragons (14-8; 9-5 SIAC West) beginning at 2 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center. Following the game, the Badgers will honor their Senior Class teammates with the annual Senior Day ceremony.
