MOBILE, Ala. (February 1, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team placed seven of its members on the 2022 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Preseason All-Conference Team as selected by the league's head coaches and Sports Information Directors.
After a two-season hiatus due to the Novel Coronavirus Global Pandemic, the SIAC will return to conference action this weekend. Spring Hill is the returning conference champion, having won the regular season and tournament crowns in 2019 in the school's first year of NCAA Division II postseason eligibility.
Sophomore shortstop
Norris McClure of Mandeville, La. was voted onto the 1
st team following a freshman season in 2021 during which he hit .329 with 5 doubles, 3 triples and a home run with 12 RBI. He fielded his position at a .912 pace (12-40-5) in 21 games played.
Returning graduate student
Michael Romano of Covington, La. appears as the 2
nd team's starting pitcher after a five-year career that includes a 9-8 record with 8 saves over 113 innings pitched with a 4.14 ERA and 95 strikeouts.
Junior
Colin Millar of Fairhope, Ala. is the 2
nd team relief pitcher with a 3-year tenure on the Badger staff that includes a 2-0 record with 2 saves over 37.2 innings pitched. He holds a 3.82 ERA with 35 strikeouts.
The conference's 2
nd team catcher is graduate student
Daniel Seres of Canton, Ga. who is back for a third season behind the plate at SHC while batting .216 including a double, 3 home runs and 12 RBI. He fields at a .950 average (156-33-10) and allowed just two passed balls in 2021.
Senior outfielder
Grayson Williams of Mobile secured his place on the 2
nd team with a 4-year career and hitting for a .313 average with 35 doubles, 2 triples, 13 home runs and 89 RBI. He fields at a .977 pace (289-11-7) and has stolen 5 bases.
Junior outfielder
Gage Ragona of Mobile gets a 2
nd team nod with a .231 average in his first season at SHC in 2021. He collected two doubles, a triple and 6 RBI while striking out just 4 times and committing only one error in 17 chances.
Sophomore
Micah Morgan of Fairhope earned a slot on the 2
nd team as a utility player after a 2021 freshman campaign in which he hit .291 with 9 doubles, 3 home runs and 23 RBI. He played various roles in the field, but still maintained a .977 (37-6-1) fielding percentage.
The Badgers (18-12 in 2021) will open the 2022 regular season at 1 p.m. Saturday with a doubleheader versus the Southeastern Baptist College Chargers at historic Stan Galle Field.
