Spring Hill splits results during closing weekend

MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College men's soccer team split results this weekend, falling to Mississippi College on Friday, then drawing with Delta State on Sunday at Library Field.
 
Spring Hill opened its Homecoming weekend on Friday with a match against Mississippi College. The Choctaws found the back of the net in the 7^th minute and took a 1-0 lead over the Badgers. SHC responded with two shots on target from Joao Amaral and Hugo Frivold, both of which were stopped by Mississippi College's goalkeeper. In the second half, the Choctaws increased their lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 71^st minute. Spring Hill's Albert Vila Truco scored to cut the deficit to one goal. The Badgers late effort was not enough and they fell 1-2.
 
On Sunday, Spring Hill honored Mikkel Aasboe, Amaral, Alexandre Carneiro, Diogo Proenca and Vila Truco before its match against Delta State for Senior Day. DSU opened scoring in the 2^nd minute of play and took an early 1-0 lead before having a player receive a straight red card in the ninth minute, forcing the team to play a man down for the remainder of the match. The Badgers fouled the Statesman in the box in the 46^th minute and DSU scored on the penalty kick to go up 2-0 in the second half. Delta State fouled Spring Hill in the box, allowing freshman Johannes Hanken Tjoshteim to score a penalty goal. In the closing seconds of the match, Tjostheim score a brace to tie the match at 2-2.

On the result after Delta State
"A lot of mixed feelings after this result. We knew a win would get us in, but down 2-0 with 18 minutes left, I guess a tie is welcome. I am happy for our seniors who got to play their last game on Library Field with a crazy ending, tying the game with 10 seconds left. Now we have to wait on  Tuesday's game between Montevallo and Delta State and hope for the correct result. This group deserves to be playing next Sunday but we will see."
