FRANKFORT, Ky. (January 29, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team snapped an eight-game losing skid with a 68-55 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) road win over the Kentucky State University (KSU) Thorobreds on Saturday afternoon at the William Exum Center.
The Badgers were clinging to a 31-29 lead over the Thorobreds (5-10; 3-8 SIAC West) at halftime, but pulled away late in the 4
th quarter off the tough inside play of guards
Zareia Ector and
Brandy Lee as well as the hot outside shooting of
Cassidy McDaniel. Crucially, the Badgers out-rebounded KSU 4-1 over the game's final minute.
SHC shot a healthy 52.2% (24-46) overall including 41.2% (7-17) from 3-point range while making 76.5% (13-17) of their free throw attempts. The Badgers edged out a 31-30 victory in rebounding, but suffered 21 turnovers resulting in 21 points on the other end of the court for the home team.
Tyashia Bostick continued to shine for SHC by scoring 23 points with four assists and four steals while Lee added 18 points with eight rebounds and forward
Paige Taylor contributed 10 points and two blocked shots.
KSU struggled to a 35% (21-60) mark in shooting with 40% (6-15) from 3-point distance and 50% (7-14) at the charity stripe. They suffered 19 turnovers to 11 SHC steals that the Badgers converted into 19 points. Hannah Henderson paced KSU with 16 points and five rebounds.
The Badgers (4-15; 2-7 SIAC West) will travel to Wilberforce, Ohio on Monday to face the Central State University (CSU) Marauders (2-12, 1-10 SIAC West) in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) contest at 5:30 p.m. (east) in Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium.
