MOBILE, Ala. (January 24, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team accepted a 67-57 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) home loss to the LeMoyne-Owen College Magicians on Monday evening at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
The Magicians (7-8; 4-2 SIAC West) led the Badgers by a narrow 32-31 margin at halftime, but built out to a 50-45 advantage by the end of the 3
rd period and pulled away by outscoring SHC 17-12 in the final stanza.
SHC shot 35.6% (21-59) from the field including 29% (9-31) from 3-point range while knocking down 75% (6-8) of its free throws. The Badgers lost 20 turnovers to eight steals that LOC converted into 18 points on the other end.
Tyashia Bostick scored 21 points with 10 rebounds as
Mathilde Nicolas and
Cassidy McDaniel each added 10 points to the SHC cause.
Takya Bennett dropped 30 points in the hoops for the visitors from Memphis, Tenn. while hauling in 11 rebounds. Patrisha Lollis dominated the boards with 20 rebounds as the Magicians earned a 57-36 edge in rebounding. LOC shot 28.6% (20-70) including 21.1% (4-19) from beyond the arc while making 69.7% (23-33) of their free throws. LOC lost 15 turnovers to six SHC steals that the Badgers turned into 14 points.
The Badgers (3-14; 1-7 SIAC West) will host the University of West Florida (UWF) Argonauts (13-4) in a non-conference game on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
