MOBILE, Ala. (January 22, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team took a 59-42 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) home loss to the Miles College Golden Bears on Saturday afternoon at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
The Golden Bears (12-3; 5-3 SIAC West) trailed the Badgers 10-8 after the 1
st quarter of play, but rallied to take a 31-20 lead by the intermission. After that, they never looked back, keeping the Badgers at a 9-to-12-point deficit for the remainder of the contest.
SHC shot 29.5% (13-44) and 28.6% (4-14) from 3-point range while making 57.1% (12-21) of their free throws.
Brandy Lee scored 20 points for SHC with a 10-of-17 performance at the charity stripe to go along with four rebounds.
Paige Taylor pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. SHC lost 28 turnovers to 16 steals by the Bears that resulted in 21 points off turnovers for the visitors from Birmingham.
Miles shot 40% (26-65) from the floor and was just 10% (1-10) from 3-point land while making 46.2% (6-13) of their free throws. The Bears hauled down 43 rebounds while SHC managed 36 boards. Surprisingly, the balanced Miles attack saw no Bear player break into double-digit scoring as Jakera Ellerbee scored nine points off the bench. Miles lost 18 turnovers to just four SHC steals.
The Badgers (3-13; 1-6 SIAC West) will host the LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) Magicians (4-9; 1-3 SIAC West) in a conference match on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
