Tigers outrun Badger women in 4th quarter for 76-58 win

MOBILE, Ala. (January 12, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team accepted a 76-58 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) home loss at the hands of the Savannah State University (SSU) Tigers on Wednesday night at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center in a game postponed on January 3 due to Covid protocols.

The Tigers (12-0; 6-0 SIAC East) led 56-43 at the end of three quarters of play, but turned on the jets in the 4th period to take as much as a 72-51 advantage with 2:26 left to play.

Tyashia Bostick led the Badgers with 26 points while Mathilde Nicolas added 11 points. Paige Taylor pulled in 14 rebounds as SHC won the battle under the boards by a 43-39 margin. Spring Hill shot 30.8% (20-65) from the field including 14.3% (3-21) from 3-point range while making 65.2% (15-23) of their free throw attempts. SHC lost 26 turnovers to 15 steals by the Tigers, leading to 21 points off turnovers for the visitors.

Five Tigers reached double-digits in scoring paced by Bria Gibbs with 17 points and 12 rebounds. SSU shot 46.7% (28-60) from the floor and 26.7% (4-15) from long distance while draining 84.2% (16-19) of their shots from the charity stripe. The Tigers lost 21 turnovers to just five Badger steals that the home team converted into 15 points on the other end.

The Badgers (3-10; 1-4 SIAC West) will visit the Lane College Dragons (8-5; 3-2 SIAC West) on Saturday at 2 p.m. in J.F. Lane Gymnasium.
