CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (September 26, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team closed out the final day of the annual Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Divisional Crossover on Sunday with three victories over the Savannah State University (SSU) Tigers, the Clark Atlanta University (CAU) Panthers, and the Benedict College (BC) Tigers at the LakePoint Sports Complex.
In the day's opening contest with the SSU Tigers (3-4; 1-2 SIAC), the Badgers rolled to a 3-0 (25-3, 25-14, 25-12) victory. Freshman
Airyonna Weaver hit for a hefty .750 average (12-0-16) while
Grace Harris served six aces,
Jessica Fairly recorded 19 assists.
Olivia Peyton had five blocks (1-4) and
Mikayla Boyer corralled 10 of the 31 Badger digs.
Overall, SHC hit .414 (35-6-70) with 12 aces, 31 digs and six (1-10) blocks while limiting SSU to .015 (16-15-67) hitting with three aces, 26 digs and two blocks (0-4).
The noon contest saw the Badgers hold the Panthers (1-3; 0-2 SIAC) to a .132 (31-16-114) attack percentage while building .333 (42-7-105) hitting percentage of their own in a 3-0 (25-18; 25-17; 25-14) victory.
Emily Weinzapfel had 10 kills, two aces, a solo block and 12 digs.
At the final match of the crossover with the BC Tigers (4-2; 0-2 SIAC), SHC won 3-0 (25-13; 25-16; 25-7) with a .371 (41-8-89) attack percentage, 14 aces, 43 digs, and 7 (0-14) blocks). Junior middle hitter
Kassandra Fairly had nine kills with a .533 (9-1-15) attack percentage, four aces, and three assisted blocks.
The Badgers (16-4; 10-0 SIAC) will open the home portion of their 2021 season on Tuesday at 6 p.m. when they host the 16
th-ranked University of West Florida (UWF) Argonauts (14-1) to a non-conference match at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
