CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (September 24, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team began play in the annual Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Divisional Crossover with a 3-0 (25-8; 25-4; 25-9) sweep of conference newcomers the Allen University Yellow Jackets at the Lakepoint Sports Complex on Friday evening.
Nine Badgers collected at least one kill each in the contest led by freshman middle hitter
Airyonna Weaver with an impressive .529 (10-1-17) attack percentage and three (1-2) blocks.
Grace Harris dished up 19 assists at setter as libero
Taylor Fontenelle scooped in 17 digs while dishing out four service aces.
All told, SHC built a .341 (34-6-82) attack percentage with 34 assists, 11 aces, 56 digs and five (3-4) blocks.
The Badgers held the Yellow Jackets to a -.113 (8-15-62) attack percentage with 38 digs, three assists, one block and no service aces.
During their transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II, contests with the Yellow Jackets (0-3) cannot count toward a team's conference standings or statistics.
The Badgers (10-4; 5-0 SIAC) will continue play at the SIAC Divisional Crossover on Saturday with matches against the Albany State University Golden Rams (5-4; 3-0 SIAC), the Edward Waters University Tigers (5-5), and the Fort Valley State University Wildcats (3-4; 0-2 SIAC) at 10 a.m., noon, and 3 p.m. respectively.
