FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers baseball team finished a 3-game series sweep of the Kentucky State University (KSU) Thorobreds with an 11-4 victory on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.
SHC took an early 1-0 lead over the Thorobreds (6-8) when right fielder
Grayson Williams drove a solo home run with two outs in the 1
st inning.
Center fielder
Joseph Guidry collected two hits with an RBI while shortstop
Daniel Rodriguez slapped around three hits with a double. Left fielder
Micah Morgan also put two hits with a double and three RBI on the scoreboard.
Jackson Short (2-0) picked up the win in four innings in relief of starter
Michael Romano while
Michael Cabeza pitched the final three outs of the 9
th inning. Short scattered three hits with two walks and two strike outs. Romano allowed two hits, including a solo home run to KSU catcher Ethan Johnson in the 2
nd inning along with two walks and five strike outs.
KSU used six pitchers as starter Solomon Reed (1-3) took the loss in 2.2 innings with six hits three walks and three strike outs. All told, the Badgers touched the Thorobred staff for 11 hits, 10 walks, and two hit batters with eight strike outs. Catcher
Bryce Walker alone earned five base-on-balls, setting a new SHC single game record.
The Badgers (14-12) will next travel to Westwego, La., to face Jesuit rival the Loyola University (La.) Wolf Pack (30-10) at Segnette Field on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
