Choctaws ride over Badgers, 9-1

MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team lost the first game of a planned doubleheader with the Mississippi College Choctaws 9-1 while the second game was rained out on Tuesday afternoon at Murray Field.

The Choctaws (15-12) took a 1-0 lead off a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the 4th inning. The wheels came off for the Badgers with two-outs in the 5th inning when a dropped fly ball in the outfield ultimately resulted in five unearned runs crossing the plate off a two-run triple, a run-scoring single and a two-run homer by the next three consecutive batters.

Senior starter Hannah Brenton (7-5) took the loss in 5.1 innings with 13 hits allowed, no walks, and two strikeouts. Catcher Ashley Ortiz drove in a run with a double over the 1st base bag in the 6th inning.
