LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team suffered a non-conference doubleheader sweep to the tune of 5-4 and 12-4 at the hands of the University of West Alabama (UWA) Tigers on Tuesday afternoon at the UWA Softball Complex.
The Tigers (17-19) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2
nd inning of the opening contest off back-to-back, two-out doubles, but the Badgers answered with a 3-run 4
th inning featuring a 2-run single to left by 1
st baseman

UWA sliced off a run by slapping a solo homer in the bottom of the 4
th inning.
SHC added a sacrifice fly by center fielder
Addison Grundmeyer in the 7
th frame, but a successful 2
nd and home double steal by the Tigers in the bottom half of the frame made it a 4-3 Badger lead. A single up the middle tied the game at 4-4. Then, with two-outs and the bases loaded, an infield error by SHC brought in the winning run for UWA.
Hannah Brenton (7-6) took the complete-game loss with seven hits and two walks allowed along with three strikeouts. Kaeleigh Crutchfield was the winner in 1.0 innings of relief, throwing just six pitches as SHC touched three UWA pitchers for 10 hits, no walks and only one strikeout.
UWA exploded out to an 11-0 lead in the 1
st inning of Game 2 and SHC broke up the shutout with one out in the 4
th when catcher

Daniella Amador followed with a sacrifice fly to center. Third baseman
Delaney Thomas would keep the game alive with a 2-run, 2-out single past the 2
nd baseman in the 5
th inning, but an RBI-single by Peyton Coots with two outs in the bottom of the 5
th secured the 8-run Mercy Rule ending.
Olivia Indorf (7-4) took the loss in one-third of an inning pitched with six hits and a walk. Crutchfield (5-1) earned the win in 3.0 innings with one hit, no walks and four strike outs.
The Badgers (14-12) will host the Kentucky State University (KSU) Thorobreds (0-10) in a doubleheader at Murray Field on Friday beginning at 1 p.m.
