FAIRFIELD, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team opened the 2020-21 regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 59-46 non-conference road loss versus the defending Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division champion Miles College Golden Bears at Knox-Windham Gymnasium.

Ariel Thompson added 12 points with 12 rebounds in her collegiate debut.
As a team, the Badgers shot 34.7% (17-49) from the floor and just 7.7% (1-13) from beyond 3-point distance. SHC lost the ball 27 times against 15 steals by the Bears defense. The Badgers knocked down 78.6% (11-14) of their free throw opportunities while rebounds were even at 43 boards apiece.
Nadia Cathey paced the Bears with 18 points as Miles shot 30% (21-70) from the field and 21.1% (4-19) from 3-point range. The Bears shot 54.2% (13-24) from the free throw line and lost only 13 turnovers to 8 steals by the Badgers for a 21-7 edge in points off turnovers.
The Badgers (0-1) and the Bears (3-10) will finish this two-game non-conference set on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Know-Windham Gymnasium.
