Baseball opens 2021 with marathon 10-9 win in 13 innings at Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. – After two previous attempts to start the 2021 season were rained out, the Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team finally got the year underway with a thrilling 10-9 marathon road victory in 13 innings at the University of Mobile Rams on Friday night at Mike Jacobs Field.

The Rams (4-2) and the Badgers were knotted at 8-8 after 9 innings of play and each team scored a run in the 11th frame when SHC 1st baseman Micah Morgan decided he had played enough for the night and crushed a leadoff homer to right in the 13th inning to put the deciding run on the board.

Jackson Short (1-0) took home the victory in 2.1 innings of work with no hits and 3 strikeouts while Mobile's Trevor Wells was saddled with the loss in 2 full innings with 2 hits and no strikeouts. As a unit, the Badger pitching staff surrendered 12 hits with 8 walks and five hit batters while striking out 11 Rams. Mobile's staff gave up 13 hits with 7 walks and one hit batter while striking out 12 Badgers.

At the plate, SHC center fielder Joseph Guidry had a 4-for-6 night, starting 1st baseman Walker Imwalle collected two hits including a towering 3-run homer out of right field in the 4th inning, and 3rd baseman Mason Bonnaffons had 3 hits with 3 RBI.

Mobile left fielder Christian Poche had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI.

The Badgers (1-0) and the Rams will face off again on Saturday at 3 p.m. at historic Stan Galle Field.
