Softball Badgers fall twice on Opening Day

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team opened the 2021 season with an 8-0 loss to the Columbus State University (CSU) Cougars followed by an 11-4 loss to the hosting Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks on Sunday afternoon at the AUM Softball Complex.

The Cougars (3-2) put four runs up on the scoreboard versus SHC starter Hannah Brenton (0-1) in the first inning and later added four more in the 3rd frame.

Brenton went four innings allowing eight hits and four walks while freshman Olivia Indorf finished the final two innings with no hits allowed, but four walks. Neither Badger pitcher registered a strikeout.

Harley Dawson (2-0) of CSU went 3.1 innings and allowed just one hit to Badger third baseman Delaney Thomas with three walks and two strikeouts. Riley Patton completed the last 1.2 innings hitless with one strikeout.

In the nightcap, the Badgers starter Paityn Desormeaux (0-1) saw the Warhawks (2-0) score 8 runs off seven hits with one strikeout in 3.1 innings.

Offensively, the Badger fared better in the second game, scoring four runs off eight hits including an RBI-double by left fielder Elise Caruso in the 2nd inning. Center fielder Kaycie Saxton enjoyed a 3-for-4 game.

The Badgers (0-2) next host the University of Mobile Lady Rams (1-2) in a non-conference doubleheader at Murray Field beginning at noon on Saturday.
