COLUMBIA, S.C. (November 27, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team snapped a 4-game season-opening losing streak with a 66-62 road victory over the Allen University Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon at Adams Gym.
The Yellow Jackets (0-3) jumped out to a 12-2 lead six minutes into the contest and maintained a 33-30 advantage at the half, but the Badgers rallied to outscore Allen 36-29 over the final 20 minutes for the 66-62 win.
SHC shot 40% (22-55) for the game including 29.4% (5-17) from 3-point distance. The Badgers lost 21 turnovers to nine steals by the Yellow Jackets, but out-rebounded their opponents 36-30. SHC also recorded an impressive eight blocked shots on the day.
David Daniels scored 19 points and
Tana Kopa added 13 points while
Jaden Gray and
Sam Davidson pitched in 11 points apiece.
Allen knocked down 41.8% (23-55) of their shots, but were just 22.2% (2-9) from long range and 66.7% (14-21) at the free throw line. Anthony Baker, Jr. scored a game-high 23 points for the Yellow Jackets. Allen lost 19 turnovers to 13 steals by the Badgers.
Allen is a provisional first-year member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) as they transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II, so the contest will not count toward the SIAC standings.
The Badgers (1-4, 0-0 SIAC West) will remain in Columbia this weekend to face the Benedict College Tigers (1-3, 0-0 SIAC East) at 7:30 p.m. (east) in the opener of the SIAC portion of the 2021-22 season in HRC Arena.
