West Alabama stops Spring Hill women, 74-49

MOBILE, Ala. (November 21, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team suffered a 74-49 non-conference home loss to the University of West Alabama (UWA) Tigers at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Tuesday evening.

The Tigers (5-1) and the Badgers were tied 18-18 after the first quarter, but a 24-4 run by UWA put the visitors from Livingston up by 20 at the half and they never looked back, taking as much as a 32-point lead in the 4th quarter.

SHC shot 32.7% (18-55) from the field and 10.5% (2-19) from 3-point distance while pulling in 41 rebounds. The Badgers lost 22 turnovers to 13 steals by UWA that resulted in 26 points-off-turnovers for the Tigers. Center Ariel Thompson had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Badgers as guard Brandy Lee collected 12 points.

UWA enjoyed a 56.6% (30-53) shooting night, but was just 9.1% (1-11) from long range. The Tigers had 35 rebounds and lost 14 turnovers to five SHC steals. UWA outscored the Badgers 50-28 in the paint. Guards Tazsa Garrett-Hammett scored 18 points, Bria Dent put in 15 points, and Naelyn Rios added 13 points for the Tigers.

The Badgers (0-5) will visit the Allen University Yellow Jackets (2-1) at 1 p.m. (east) on Saturday at Adams Gym in Columbia, S.C.
