BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (November 22, 2021) – Spring Hill College (SHC) was announced Monday as the 2021 Gulf South Conference (GSC) Men's Soccer Fair Play Award winner. This is the Badgers' first time winning this award.
Spring Hill committed 202 fouls during the season, which was fifth among league leaders, while recording a league-low 17 bookings, all of which were yellow cards.
The GSC Men's Soccer Fair Play Award is awarded annually to the team that best portrays sportsmanship over the course of a full season. The three conference teams that accumulated the fewest total yellow and red cards combined were nominated for the award. GSC coaches voted for their respective top choice from the three-team pool but could not vote for their own team. The team that received the most votes earned the award.
SHC head coach
Chris Leonardi was pleased that his team's sportsmanship was recognized by the conference. "While it's not an award you are looking for at the start of the season, this accomplishment is the result of the way our players and staff conducted themselves all year," he said. "We take great pride in representing Spring Hill College at our best on and off the field and I am happy for the group and our school."
