Two-fer-Tuesday! SHC Volleyball advances to SIAC Championship Match
ROCK HILL, S.C. (November 16, 2021) – The West Division's top-seeded Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team took two wins on Tuesday to advance to Wednesday's Championship match of the 2021 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championship Tournament at the Rock Hill Sports & Events Center.
 
The Badgers opened the day with a 3-0 (25-13; 25-17; 25-18) sweep of the Kentucky State University (KSU) Thorobreds (18-11) and secured the championship slot with a 3-0 (25-19; 25-13; 25-18) win over the Albany State University (ASU) Golden Rams (18-14) in the evening match.
 
The morning match with KSU saw SHC build a .255 (38-14-94) attack percentage with 36 assists, 9 aces, 38 digs and nine (2-14) blocks. Airyonna Weaver totaled 10 kills with an ace, 13 digs and four block assists. Kassandra Fairly tallied nine kills and four block assists and setter Jessica Fairly handed out 34 assists. Emily Weinzapfel collected seven kills with four aces, five digs and two block assists while libero Taylor Fontenelle scooped in 11 digs with 19 receptions and three aces.
 
In the winner's bracket match with ASU, Kassandra Fairly smacked down 14 kills with four block assists while Allison Weimer had 10 kills with two block assists. Jessica Fairly handed out 35 assists with 22 digs. SHC amassed a .233 (48-18-129) attack percentage with 41 assists, five service aces, 72 digs and eight (2-12) blocks.
 
ASU hit for a .054 (26-19-130) average with 23 assists, three service aces, 53 digs and two (0-4) blocked shots.
 
The Badgers (29-5) will play at 4 p.m. (east) on Wednesday versus an opponent to be determined by the two remaining double elimination matches.
