ALBANY, Ga. (October 22, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team defeated the Albany State University (ASU) Golden Rams 3-1 (25-27; 25-21; 25-17; 25-12) in a non-conference tilt at the Jones Brothers HPER Center on Friday night.
The Golden Rams (13-11) earned a tight 27-25 victory in the first set, but the Badgers rebounded to sweep the final three sets for the win.
Kassandra Fairly led the Badger charge with 16 kills, an ace, and a solo block while
Emily Weinzapfel added 13 kills, an ace, 28 digs, and three blocks (1-2).
Airyonna Weaver slapped down 10 kills with a solo block.
Jessica Fairly handed out 33 assists with
Grace Harris distributing another 17 successful sets. Libero
Taylor Fontenelle racked up 32 digs as outside hitter
Mikayla Boyer pulled in 23 digs and five kills. Defensively,
Allison Weimer collected a team season-high five solo blocks and
Olivia Peyton joined the block party with three solo and three assisted blocks.
As a team, SHC finished with a .219 (60-18-192) attack percentage, 60 assists, two aces, 127 digs and an impressive 14 (11-6) blocks.
The victory also gave SHC head coach
Peggy Martin her 1,399
th career win with two regular season matches remaining on the 2021 schedule.
The Badgers (24-5) will take their first shot at giving Martin an unprecedented 1,400
th career victory on Tuesday when they host historic Jesuit rival the Loyola University (La.) Wolf Pack (14-7) in a non-conference match at 6 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
