Badgers open SIAC play with DH sweep of Lane

MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team opened the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) portion of its 2020 schedule on Saturday afternoon and celebrated by sweeping a doubleheader away from the Lane College Dragons by the scores of 3-0 and 4-0 at Murray Field.

SHC starter Hannah Brenton (2-6) held the Dragons (1-7, 0-2 SIAC West) to two hits in the opening contest as the Badgers used a 3-run 3rd inning aided by two Lane infield errors to take and then hold a 3-0 lead. Brenton dominated the Dragons, issuing no walks with 12 strikeouts. Centerfielder Sophia Nuzzolillo and third baseman Delaney Thomas each collected two hits including a double for SHC.

Kayla Saul (0-4) took the complete-game loss, giving up nine hits with a walk and no strikeouts.

In the second game, Paityn Desormeaux (2-0) picked up the win in five innings of relief work, giving up just one hit with no walks and five strikeouts.

Designated player Morgan Kramer got the Badgers on the board with a run-scoring double to deep center in the 1st inning while right fielder Carlisle Jamison and Thomas contributed RBI-hits in the 2nd inning. The final run of the day crossed the plate in the 3rd inning when first baseman Daniella Amador drove in a run off a two-out hotshot grounder down the first base line.

Left fielder Elise Caruso, Jamison, and Amador each tallied two hits with Caruso and Jamison ripping doubles.

Brittany Ensley (1-3) took the loss for Lane in the second game, allowing 10 hits and two walks with one strikeout. At the plate, she punched two hits for the Dragons.
