PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team suffered a 12-4 non-conference loss to the University of West Florida (UWF) Argonauts in five innings on Wednesday afternoon at the UWF Softball Field.
The Argonauts (8-5) grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the 1
st inning, but the Badgers struck back in the 2
nd inning with a leadoff homer off the bat of shortstop
Hannah Fillmore to cut the deficit down to 2-1.
UWF responded with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 2
nd inning to build out a 4-1 advantage. SHC fought back with three runs in the 3
rd inning, but 3-run spots for the Argos in both the 4
th and 5
th frames ended the threat.
Badger starter
Hannah Brenton (0-5) lasted just 1.1 innings with four hits, a walk and two strikeouts.
Grace Gilbert evened her season record at 3-3 with the win in two innings with one hit, no walks and three strikeouts while Kelsey Sweatt picked up a 3-inning save with two hits, four walks and three strikeouts.
The Badgers (1-6) will host the Mississippi College Choctaws (6-4) in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Murray Field.
