MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team lost a 79-76 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) home overtime decision to the Lane College Dragons on Saturday evening at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
The Dragons (10-14, 6-10 SIAC West) trailed SHC 36-31 at halftime, but rallied to tie the score at 68-68 and send the game into the extra time.
Senior forward
Chase Shellman of Louisville, Ky. scored 23 points with 10 rebounds for the Badgers while senior guard
Dwight Harris added 18 points and senior guard
Gresyn Rogers contributed 15 points.
As a team, SHC shot 42.4% (25-59) from the field and 33.3% (5-15) from 3-point range. The Badgers lost 14 turnovers against six steals by the Dragons. Lane dominated the rebounding by a 44-31 total. The Badgers made 80.8% (21-26) of their free throws.
SHC had no answers for Lanes' Tyler Henry who led all scoring with 30 points as the Dragons shot 40.6% (26-64) overall and made 33.3% (7-21) of their shots from beyond the arc. The Dragons committed 11 turnovers against two steals by a lackluster Badger defense. Lane sank 87% (20-23) of their free throw opportunities on the night.
The Badgers (7-18, 6-10 SIAC West) next travel to Fairfield, Ala., on Thursday to challenge the West Division-leading Miles College Golden Bears (17-3; 12-2 SIAC West) at Knox-Windham Gymnasium in a 7:30 p.m. scheduled tip off.
