MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team opened the 2020 home season at Murray Field on Wednesday with a split of a non-conference doubleheader with the University of Montevallo Falcons, falling 11-7 in the first game and rallying to earn a walk-off 5-4 win in the nightcap.

th inning to take an 11-7 victory over the Badgers. SHC starter
Hannah Brenton (0-4) went 6.2 innings with 11 hits, three walks and two strikeouts before
Paityn Desormeaux closed out the contest allowing a hit to one of the two batters she faced. Kaitlyn Flugga (1-0) earned the win in 5.1 innings of relief work with five hits, no walks and one strikeout.

Delaney Thomas had two hits including a 3-run double in the 2
nd inning. Brianna Stella and shortstop Haley Barnette each had three hits for the Falcons while third baseman Sierra Easterwood had a double and a triple. Barnette also connected for a 2-run homer to left in the 2
nd inning.
In the second game, SHC shortstop
Hannah Fillmore lifted a sacrifice fly to right that scored left fielder
Elise Caruso from 3
rd base and when the throw into home plate found its way to the backstop Thomas alertly scampered in with the winning run.
Morgan Kramer (1-0) picked up the win in 3.1 innings of relief with four hits, a walk and no strikeouts while starter
Olivia Brown lasted 3.2 innings with eight hits, three walks and no strikeouts. Madison Morgan (1-1) of Montevallo took the loss in n3.0 innings of relief with three hits, a walk and two strikeouts after Mabry Norris lasted 3.2 innings with five hits, two walks and one strikeout.
Caruso, Thomas and Fillmore each had a pair of hits in the second game with Caruso slapping a triple to lead off the 1
st inning and Thomas adding another RBI-double to her totals just two batters later. Montevallo catcher Mariel Bertossi had a triple and a home run for the visitors while Barnette added three more hits to her day's effort.
The Badgers (1-5) will visit the No. 4 ranked University of West Florida Argonauts (6-3) in Pensacola on Wednesday, February 19, for a single game beginning at 4 p.m.
