Badgers belted by Buccaneers, 4-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's soccer team experienced a 4-1 Gulf South Conference (GSC) loss to the Christian Brothers University (CBU) Buccaneers at Signaigo Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Buccaneers (3-5, 1-2 GSC) scored first in the 17th minute when Maximillian Galizzi discovered an opening in the lower center of the goal. Galizzi then made it a 3-0 advantage off a successful penalty kick in the 21st minute followed by a hat-trick goal in just the 22nd minute following an assist from Devin Malone.

SHC answered back in the 41st minute of play when red shirt freshman midfielder Juan Pablo Herrera from Acarigua, Venezuela, found junior Vassil Kokali from Rome, Italy, open with a free kick entry pass that led to a ripping shot by Kokali into the middle of the net.

Galizzi later tapped in the icing goal from a yard out in the 87th minute on a breakaway following a leading pass from Conor Samson after the Badgers had brought up their defense in an attempt outman the Bucs' defense in the final minutes.

SHC sophomore starting goalkeeper Alessandro Erdelyi (1-4) from Turin, Italy, made two saves against seven shots and three corner kicks by the Buccaneers in the first half before yielding to senior Barou Ndaw of Mobile, Ala., for the second half. Ndaw saw two shots and three corner kicks, but had no save opportunities. Across the pitch, Wayne Davis of CBU collected five saves versus 10 shots and five corner attempts by the Badgers.

The Badgers (2-4, 0-2 GSC) will host conference foe the Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks (4-3, 1-0 GSC) at Library Field on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
