Badgers bow to No. 9 Sailfish 2-1 in overtime; Lipinski makes program history

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The 18th-ranked Spring Hill College (SHC) men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to the 9th-ranked Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) Sailfish (3-0) at the PBA Soccer/Lacrosse Field on Friday evening.

Senior forward Alex Lipinski of Krefeld, Germany, put the Badgers up 1-0 in the 11th minute of play and subsequently set a new SHC program record for career goals with his 34th tally in three seasons at SHC.

The Sailfish (3-0) then fought back to knot the game at 1-1 in the 53rd minute off a goal by Claudio Rivadeneira assisted by Cadu Cusatis.

In overtime, PBA found the back of the net with the game-ending "Golden Goal" off the foot of Rivadeneira in the 96th minute.

"There are lots of positives to take away from tonight's game," said SHC head coach Steve Wieczorek after the match. "We played well for stretches and PBA played well, but created a few more chances overall. In the end, it's a Top 25 clash decided by a goal."

SHC sophomore keeper Alessandro Erdelyi (0-1) from Turin, Italy, accepted the loss after making four saves against 18 shots with nine corner kicks by the Sailfish. Elliot Barker of PBA collected four saves versus eight shots and two corner attempts by the Badgers.

The Badgers (1-1) now travel to Winter Park, Fla., to face the Rollins College Tars (0-1) on Barker Family Stadium at Cahall-Sandspur Field beginning Sunday at 2 p.m. (Eastern)
