INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Spring Hill College Baseball will travel to the University of Tampa for its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament, May 16-18.


Spring Hill (29-20) is the No. 8 seed in the South Region, traveling to No. 1 seed Tampa (36-14) for a 1 p.m. ET first pitch on Thursday, May 16. Four-seed West Florida (36-16) will meet fifth-seed Nova Southeastern (32-15) at 5 p.m. ET. All games will be played at UT Baseball Field.

The Badgers (29-20) earned an automatic bid as winners of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Tournament title on May 5. The Badgers enacted the mercy rule in three of their four tournament games, outscoring opponents 55-14 while sweeping through tournament play, May 2-5. Spring Hill has won

The other South Region will be hosted by two-seed and Gulf South Conference champion Delta State University (39-12) in Cleveland, Mississippi. The Statesmen will meet seven-seed Embry-Riddle (Fla.) (29-20) in the first round, while three-seed Eckerd College (30-17) meets Valdosta State (30-21).

SHC is 0-5 against South Region teams, dropping a three-game series at Eckerd College early in the season and losing a home and away series with West Florida, 6-2 and 8-6. Four of the loses came in five-game stretch in early February.

Spring Hill is one of four teams making their first NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament appearance this year, joined by Newberry and Young Harris College, which will both compete in the Southeast Region 2, and former DI program New York Institute of Technology (NYIT).

SHC is also one seven tournament teams which is in its first five years of full membership in NCAA Division II, joining Azusa Pacific, Lubbock Christian, Oklahoma Baptist, Point Loma Nazarene, Rogers State and Young Harris. This Spring Hill's first year of full membership and postseason eligibility. Other SHC teams to appear in an NCAA Regional this season include men's and women's cross country, men's soccer, women's volleyball and softball.

The 2019 NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament is made up of 56 teams, including 23 automatic qualifiers, including defending national champion Augustana (40-14), the top seed in the Central Region.

The Regionals consist of 16 sites in a double-elimination bracket, May 16-18. Winners of each regional will meet in eight best-of-three Super Regionals to determine which eight teams advance to the NCAA Division II Championship, June 1-8 at the USA Baseball Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.
