Women's Tennis Drops match to Alabama State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Spring Hill College had a run of four straight wins stopped Sunday, as the Badgers lost, 4-0, at Division I member Alabama State.

The Hornets (11-8) - which finished their regular season a perfect 8-0 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference - won the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles matches to secure the team point. Reka Szentes and Urska Velec beat Macinley Chastain and Madison Artigues, 6-2, at No. 2 and Gabriela Lackova and Lea Krajcovicova beat Rebecca Pearlman and Mary Roane, 6-0, at No. 3.

In the singles matches, Roane was forced to retire from her match at No. 6, giving Chloe Kabamba a victory. Worthy Goldman beat Chastain, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and Velec knocked off Pearlman, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 to give Alabama State the team win. Chastain, a freshman from Mobile, had a nine-match winning streak halted with her loss.

Spring Hill (9-13) is back in action Friday, closing out the regular season against the University of Mobile at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center. The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships will be April 15-16 at the Peachtree City Tennis Center in Peachtree City, Ga.
