Baseball Sweeps Loyola

MOBILE, Ala. – The Badgers baseball team hosted a doubleheader with Loyola University on Tuesday at Historic Stand Galle Field.

Game 1

Daniel Rodriguez hit his eighth home run of the season and Luke Wall went 2-for-3 as Spring Hill took Game 1, 9-5.

Timely hitting led the Badger attack as the hosts scored multiple runs in three of their six at bats including plating three runs in the 3rd inning highlighted by a triple from Mason Bonnaffons.

Three different pitchers saw action in a game where the visitors out hit SHC. Solid defense from the hosts limited the damage and the pitching staff forced 17 ground outs or fly outs from 35 batters.

RJ Delrio (1-0) got the win from the bullpen in 2.0 innings of work, allowing one run on three hits.

Game 2

A big 3rd inning proved to be the difference as Spring Hill completed the sweep of Loyola by taking Game 2 of the doubleheader, 4-1.

John Sklopan tripled to score Rodriguez and Bonnaffons which put the Badgers ahead 4-0.

It would be all Spring Hill needed as Will Shaw (1-1) got the win in 4.0 innings of work. Shaw struck out five and allowed one earned run.

Michael Romano picked up his second save of the season, pitching 2.0 innings and giving up no runs and no hits.

SHC (18-12, 10-2) travels to Fankfort, Ky. this weekend for a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) series with Kentucky State. Play begins Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon EST.
