Badgers Split Double Header with Chargers

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Spring Hill Badgers baseball team traveled to the northern end of the state on Tuesday for a doubleheader with the Chargers of the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

Game 1

SHC jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after back-to-back doubles from Brennan Fontenot and Daniel Rodriguez in the top of the 1st inning.

UAH went on to score five runs over the next two innings to build a 5-1 lead.

The Badgers earned a pair of two out walks in the home half of the 4th inning, setting the table for Neil Ring who launched a 3-run home run to bring the visitors to within one run.

The Chargers again answered back, plating four runs on four hits highlighted by a RBI double from Landon Ezzell that put the game out of reach.

Chance Shell (0-2) took the loss in 2.1 innings of work, surrendering three earned runs on seven hits while striking out four batters.

Game 2

The Spring Hill bats exploded in the second game of the twin bill, pounding out 12 hits in seven innings and scoring 10 runs.

Rodriguez led the way with five RBI on 3-for-4 hitting including a pair of home runs. His grand slam in the 4th inning gave the Badgers a 7-5 lead which they never relinquished.

Fontenot joined the action as well with a solo home run to center field in the 6th inning.

UAH made it interesting late, pushing two runs across in each of their last two at-bats to make the score 10-9 with the tying run on base with two outs. Garrett Bodine flied out to right field to end the game and give SHC the split.

SHC (4-9) will host the University of West Alabama on Wednesday, March 13th, at Historic Stan Galle Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
