GULF SHORES, Ala. – Spring Hill College went 3-1 against NAIA teams over the weekend at the Gulf Shores Invitational. The Badgers opened the week with a 2-1 win over College of Coastal Georgia and then defeated Faulkner University, 5-2, on Friday afternoon. On Saturday, Spring Hill dropped a close 3-2 game to Martin Methodist College, but bounced back to defeat Bethel University (Tenn.), 6-5, in eight innings Saturday night.
Carmen Byrd led the Badgers with seven hits on the weekend, hitting 7-for-14 (.500) through four games. Hanna Fillmore (.429) had six hits, including two doubles.
Delaney Thomas had three doubles and four total hits, while driving in a team-best three runs.
Morgan Kramer, Byrd and Fillmore each had two RBI.
Olivia Brown picked up two of the wins, allowing five earned runs (seven total) off 11 hits and two walks through 13 1/3 innings.
Hannah Brenton posted a 0.63 ERA in her three appearances. She pitched 14 1/3 innings, allowing only one earned run and two total runs off 10 hits and two walks. She struck out eight. She pitched a complete-game win against College of Coastal Georgia to start the weekend.
Spring Hill (6-11) will take a 10 day break before returning to action March 14-16 at the SIAC Softball Crossover in Jasper, Alabama.
