BATON ROUGE, La. -- Spring Hill College beach volleyball dropped both matches on the first day of the Tiger Beach Classic at LSU's Mango's Beach Volleyball Club, Friday, March 22, meeting the University of North Florida and Georgia State University for the first time this season.

UNF began the day with a 4-1 win over the Sandy Badgers, before Georgia State took the second match, 5-0. It is the first back-to-back losses of the season for Spring Hill (12-4).

"LSU has a first-rate facility along with first-rate people working their events top to bottom. Today was a struggle for our all of pairs to really get going. We had a hard time with the sideout phase of our game," said SHC Coach Shawn Taylor. "Credit a lot of that to our opponents as they put a good amount of pressure on us. If we're going to continue to make strides and grow as a program then we need to do a better job of managing that pressure."

Allison Weimer and Caroline Herrera teamed up for Spring Hill's only win at the No. 3 pairing, beating North Florida's Antonia Harrison and Jessi Freeman in three sets (17-21, 21-13, 15-13).

"Al and Carol like they did a great job of competing both matches," Taylor said.

SHC will meet Southern Miss on Saturday at 10:45 a.m., followed by Tulane University at 2:30 p.m. It will be the fourth time the Sandy Badgers will face Southern Miss. SHC has won the three previous meetings.  

"They've shaken their lineup up and were playing well today. We'll have to be ready for the challenge," Taylor said.
