Badgers Battle No. 3 West Florida

Spring Hill couldn't get the bats going against No. 3-ranked West Florida Wednesday afternoon as the Badgers fell, 5-0, at Murray Field.

West Florida (28-4) took advantage of an SHC error in the first to plate three runs, with the Argonauts tacking on a fourth run in the second on an RBI triple.

The Badgers (11-14) made contact at the plate, but weren't rewarded until the fourth inning when Elise Caruso laced a double to right-center. That would be as far as Caruso would get on the bases, however, as the Badgers trailed moving to the fifth.

In the sixth, another RBI triple pushed West Florida into a 5-0 advantage. Carmen Byrd would walk for SHC in the bottom of the inning, but the Badgers couldn't answer on the scoreboard.

The seventh inning would see another base runner reach for SHC as Aly Fowler reached on an error with two out. Pinch runner Lanae Davis would move up on a wild pitch, but a strike out would end the game with UWF taking the win.

Olivia Brown (3-3) took the loss for SHC after allowing four runs on five hits in 1.2 innings. Morgan Kramer would work in relief and allow just one run on four hits. Grace Gilbert pitched four scoreless innings for UWF to move to 11-2, while Tori Perkins notched her second save with a three-inning effort.

The Badgers return to SIAC action this Saturday with a doubleheader at Lane. First pitch in Jackson, Tenn., is set for noon, with a single game on Sunday to follow.
