PENSACOLA, Fla. – Spring Hill College softball dropped its first non-tournament series of the season Wednesday, falling 8-0 and 8-3 in a doubleheader at the University of West Florida.

Aly Fowler hit 2-of-2 to lead Spring Hill in the loss, while Else Caruso, Hannah Benton and
Tiffany Fairchild each had one hit. West Florida took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, added two in the fourth and then scored five runs in the fifth to enact the eight-run mercy rule.
Fowler and Brenton produced back-to-back two-out singles in the top of the fourth, but both runners were stranded.
Baylie Doiron (0-4) took the loss for the Badgers, allowing six runs off seven hits. She struck out four. Grace Gilbert (3-1) had the complete game shutout for West Florida.

The Badgers started the second game with a 3-0 lead when
Hannah Fillmore hit a three-run home run in the top of the third. Rachel Wright hit a two-run shot in the fifth to pull within a run and then the Argonauts poured on six runs in the sixth. West Florida brought 11 batters to the plate in the sixth, collecting five extra-base hits. Callan Taylor, Jacquelynne Poling and Courtney McLellan each doubled in the inning, while Mika Garcia added a two-run triple and Rachel Wright tripled to drive in a run.
Carmen Byrd led Spring Hill with two hits,
Delaney Thomas and Fillmore each had one hit.
Kelsey Sweatt (3-0) recorded the win in six innings of work for West Florida. She struck out 10. Hannah Benton (2-3) took the loss, allowing six earned runs off six hits and three walks.
Spring Hill (3-10) will host the University of West Alabama on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader.
