ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Spring Hill College baseball team dropped a non-conference game versus Eckerd on Sunday.
The Badgers struck first in the third inning when Brennan Fontenot tripled to right center, driving in Luke Wall and John Sklopan.
After a leadoff double from Daniel Rodriguez in the 6th, Mason Bonnaffons singled to right field to give SHC a 3-1 lead over the Tritons.
Eckerd answered back in the home half, with nine runs on six hits, highlighted by a 2-RBI double from Santos Grande down the right field line giving the hosts a 5-3 advantage.
The Tritons tacked on four more runs in each of the next two innings to take an 18-3 lead.
The Badgers loaded the bases in the top of the 9th and Will Shaw hit a pinch-hit, bases clearing double to bring the score to 18-6. SHC failed to chip away any further at the lead.
Fontenot finished 1-for-3 with two RBI, a double and earned two walks.
The Badgers (2-5) will host a midweek game with the University of West Florida on Wednesday, February 13th. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
