MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College baseball team began their 2019 campaign on Friday by taking on the Miners of Missouri S&T at historic Stan Galle Field.
The Badgers fell behind early as Missouri S&T scattered five runs over the first four innings.
SHC was not able to capitalize on early baserunners, stranding three in the first, and two again in the fourth. The Badgers would strand a total of 12 throughout the game.
A trio of Badgers collected two hits as Luke Wall went 2-for-5 with a RBI and a double. Brennan Fontenot was also 2-for-5 while Landon Powell went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Designated Hitter Spencer Miller scored a run and drove in two on a single to left field in the bottom of the sixth to plate the first runs of the season for SHC.
Chance Shell (0-1) took the loss in 1.1 innings of work. Shell surrendered two runs on three hits and one walk.
Dalton Erger (1-0) went 5.1 innings in the win for the Miners.
The Badgers (0-1) will continue their weekend series with Missouri S&T (1-0) on Saturday when they host the Miners for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
