Eagles soar over Badgers, 91-76

MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team opened its 2019-20 home schedule on Monday night at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center with a 91-76 non-conference loss to the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) Eagles.
 
The Eagles (1-1) started the game hot from 3-point distance and quickly took a 26-10 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. By halftime, the bulge had expanded to 54-35 and ERAU would not look back from there.
 
Junior forward Katie Krout of Tuscaloosa, Ala. turned in 24 points with 8 rebounds while senior forward Tiffany Valentine of Houston, Texas pulled in 8 rebounds with 17 points. Freshman guard Lindi DeBilzan of Lexington, Ky. dropped in 11 points with 6 assists as senior guard Elise Reilly of Covington, La., added 6 points and 11 assists. Senior guard Daja Walker of Tuskegee, Ala. contributed 11 points to the Badger cause.
 
As a team, SHC shot 47.1% (32-68) on the evening, including a 21.4% (3-14) effort from beyond the 3-point arc. The Badgers lost 16 turnovers against 8 steals by the Eagles defense. Spring Hill put home 81.8% (9-11) of their free throws and earned a slim 34-33 edge in rebounding.
 
Sarah Jones led the way for ERAU with 18 points as six Eagles reached double digits in scoring. ERAU shot a blistering 57.1% (36-63) from the field, including 52.9% (9-17) from 3-point range. The Eagles completed 90.9% (10-11) free throws and lost 14 turnovers to 8 steals by Spring Hill.
 
The Badgers (0-3) hit the road again on Wednesday when they travel to visit the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) Chargers (0-2) at 5:30 p.m. on Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.
