HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team dropped an 85-67 non-conference decision to the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) Chargers on Wednesday night on Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.
The Chargers (1-2) took early command of the contest bolting out to a 28-9 advantage in the first quarter. The differential grew to 47-18 by halftime.
Senior guard
Elise Reilly of Covington, La., was 10-of-16 from 3-point land and tallied her second-highest career-points total of 38 points while senior forward
Tiffany Valentine of Houston, Texas pulled in 8 rebounds. Reilly's 10 3-pointers also tied her own school record for 3-pointers in a game.
As a team, SHC shot 40.7% (22-54) on the evening, including 52.6% (10-19) from beyond the 3-point arc. The Badgers lost 21 turnovers against 9 steals by the Chargers defense. Spring Hill put home 68.4% (13-19) of their free throws, but lost the "Battle of the Boards" by a razor-thin 36-35 margin in rebounding.
Three Chargers scored 18 points, including Katie Speegle who added a team-high seven rebounds. UAH shot 52.3% (34-65) from the field, including 50% (10-20) from 3-point range. The Chargers completed just 38.9% (7-18) of their free throws and lost 14 turnovers to 7 steals by Spring Hill.
The Badgers (0-4) return to home action on Saturday with a non-conference match up with archrival the University of Mobile Lady Rams (2-1) beginning at 2 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
