Badger ladies close 2019 with a 2-0 home loss to Delta State

MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team closed out the 2019 season with a 2-0 Gulf South Conference (GSC) home loss to the Delta State University (DSU) Lady Statesmen on Saturday afternoon at Library Field.

The Lady Statesmen (6-6-4, 6-5-1 GSC) and the Badgers were knotted in a scoreless tie at halftime. The scoring drought would last until the 66th minute when Rylee McGee scored by cleaning up a crushing shot from Diana Okechukwu that freshman SHC goalkeeper Hannah Linss of River Ridge, La. took off her chest, but then bounced all the way to the far right side of the box to find McGee for the score.

DSU later added a game-sealing goal in the 83rd minute off the foot of Okechukwu when she also cleaned up a shot that had caromed off the goalpost from teammate Alexis Hobbs.

Linss (0-10) made 11 saves against 27 shots and 6 corner kicks by DSU. Amanda Hilliard (6-6-4) of the Lady Statesmen faced eight shots with no corners by the Badgers.

With the win, Delta State clinched the final open spot in the eight-team 2019 GSC Championship Tournament.

The Badgers finished the season with a 1-15 mark overall, including a 0-12 record in conference play.
